Tisdale’s former mayor issues statement on resignation

The former Mayor of Tisdale has issued a statement regarding his resignation.

Roy Skoglund resigned as mayor effective last Thursday, and the Town issued a statement notifying the public of his decision Tuesday night.

“After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision to resign as mayor for the Town of Tisdale,” Skoglund said in his statement. “The outpour of calls, texts, and messages have been overwhelming.”

Skoglund said he and his wife Sandy were thankful for the positive support and kind words.

The statement said the decision to resign was not health-related and was not made lightly.

“Serving as mayor has been an incredible honor, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished thus far for our community,” Skoglund’s statement said. “However, the reality is that the demands of the role, combined with the lack of fair renumeration, have made it increasingly challenging to balance my responsibilities to both my family and the community.”

Skoglund said being mayor carries a significant responsibility, and requires energy, time, and commitment to represent the community effectively.

“In order for future leaders to dedicate themselves fully to this important role, I hope that council and the community will consider how fair compensation can help ensure strong, sustainable leadership going forward,” Skoglund stated.

Skoglund’s statement thanked residents for their trust and support, fellow council members for their collaboration, and Town staff for their dedication on behalf of the community.

“It has truly been a privilege to serve you.”

Skoglund declined an interview with northeastNOW, preferring not to comment beyond his statement.
