Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for areas northwest of the Battlefords early Wednesday evening.

At 5:43 p.m., meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm near Hamlin, moving east at 60 kilometres an hour. They said the storm is capable of producing a tornado, along with tennis ball–sized hail, wind gusts up to 110 kilometres an hour and locally intense rainfall.

The warning covers the R.M. of Battle River, including Sweet Grass First Nation and Delmas, as well as the R.M. of North Battleford northwest of the Battlefords.

Tornado warnings are issued when thunderstorms are imminent or occurring and are likely to produce tornadoes.
