Two Rebeccas tapped out of the Amazing Race

If the photos are anything to go by, not winning the Amazing Race is not a total loss, which one member of the Flying Dust First Nation and her partner recently experienced.

Rebecca Merasty was teamed up with her friend, Rebecca Watt and the pair managed to make it through five episodes before placing last in the sixth episode and being eliminated.

Neither Rebecca felt that they failed, quite the opposite in fact.

“We’re the first all-Indigenous female team to run in The Amazing Race Canada and we feel so much gratitude to have gotten this experience running all around this beautiful land,” they said in their final interview.

When meadowlakeNOW talked to both Rebeccas before the race started, they talked about how they met at a casting call in Calgary and both stood up when that name was called.

They have been fast friends ever since, with Merasty, who grew up living in Meadow Lake, planning to bring Watt to Saskatchewan this summer to visit her family.

“We are soul sisters, we have morphed into one,” the two said.

In their final episode, which took place in Sherbrooke and the Eastern Townships and Quebec City, they faced several challenges.

The two Rebeccas took detour B, and searched Sherbrooke for six giant, colourful murals.

They got a list of items in French that had to be placed on the correct murals on the answer board.

After that, they did a Face-off challenge where one racer from each team knocked their opponent off a balance beam to claim victory and get the next clue.

Both Rebeccas were knocked off and had a penalty minute before proceeding.

Next followed speed cycling on an indoor track with 45-degree banked corners before driving to Sutton, Quebec for a goat yoga class.

Racers had to perform a series of yoga poses with a goat on their back.

At the final stage, they met host Jon Montgomery in Sutton at the Château Ste-Agnès where they were told their time on the race had ended.
