A 75-year-old woman was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries following a random attack Thursday in Saskatoon.

It happened around 5:10 p.m., when the woman was working in the community garden in the 3100 block of Arlington Avenue. Police said she was approached by an unknown woman who began assaulting her with a garden tool. The suspect fled on foot, but Saskatoon police were able to locate her in a nearby tree line and bring her into custody.

While the suspect was being booked into detention, she punched a female Special Constable in the face. The officer required hospital treatment for a minor injury.

The 27-year-old from Prince Albert is now facing charges of aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, and breach of probation. It was found that she was also wanted on outstanding warrants of arrest in Prince Albert.
