Classic cars, hot rods roll into Prince Albert for annual car show

The cooler weather didn’t put the brakes on the annual Klassic Kruisers Kar Klub Show Friday in Prince Albert.

About 170 entrants and hundreds of spectators spent the afternoon admiring vehicles spanning decades. Klassic Kruisers president Les Nemish said the club itself was established in 1988. For the last 26 years, it has been held in the casino parking lot, but due to renovations it was moved to the Art Hauser Centre.

“The SPCA approached us to do a fundraiser for them, and this fell into place because we thought this would be perfect,” said Nemish.

Despite the overcast skies for most of the event and cooler temperatures, Nemish was pleased with the turnout.

“Its an event that PA needs. We have people coming and going. You have some elderly people coming in and saying, ‘Hey, that was the car I had when I was younger’ or whatever, so those are the nice things about it. But, it’s just the people and Prince Albert needs good events.”

The majority of the vehicles were from local car enthusiasts. Nemish said it would be hard to suggest any ‘standout’ vehicles because everyone has their own interests.

“One thing that is new this year is a new car club in town called Midnight North. It’s a bunch of young guys getting together to start up their love of cars,” said Nemish. “The majority of their cars, they grew up watching Fast and Furious so those are the cars that they’re bringing out. If you grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard and Smokey and the Bandit – that’s where their cars are from,” he said.

“It’s great to see the new generation coming in. It doesn’t have to be a classic. It doesn’t have to be a 40- or 50-year-old car. It’s, just you know, the love of cars – that’s what it is.”

Funds raised through a BBQ on site will be donated to the Prince Albert SPCA. While the annual car show is the biggest event of the year, the Klassic Kruisers Kar Klub attends several events throughout the summer, often with any proceeds raised going to community groups or charities.
