Marli Shepherd hired as Parks and Facilities manager for City of Melfort

The City of Melfort has hired a new Parks and Facilities Manager, someone who is quite familiar with the area.

Marli Shepherd, the mother of Melfort Mustangs’ forward Austin Shepherd, has accepted the position.

“Anything in recreation I find really interesting, because it’s been a huge part of our family, so to be able to grow in the position that I’ve been doing for the last few years is great. I don’t know exactly what all my position entails, I’ll learn more in my first little bit of being with the City of Melfort, but I’m looking forward to it,” she told northeastNOW.

“We’ve really enjoyed Melfort and the time that we’ve been there, and obviously Austin brought us up there, so that’s kind of what drew me here. We really enjoyed the city every time that we’ve come, so just to be able to grow and do some things in Melfort that maybe I’ve tried back home and have worked or have learned from, and just kind of keep growing.”

Marli has been working with the town of Kerrobert for six years, with the last two of them being in recreation.

Meanwhile, Austin has been with the Mustangs these past two seasons and is set to enter his final year with the team this fall.

“It was definitely the icing on the cake. We kind of tried to take him out of the equation when I was making the decision about the job, but then, when I decided to take it, it was definitely something that I was super excited about. Jerry (my husband) is keeping his job in Kerrobert, he does shift work, so he’ll still be running back and forth, but at least the kids and I will be able to catch a lot more of Austin’s home games, and hopefully, so will Jerry,” Marli added.

“The people in Melfort have been so great in helping us make the move and finding a place to live, so that’s been a huge driving factor. They’ve been super welcoming, and we’re excited to build more relationships within the community and make Melfort our home.”

Marli will start her work with the city as the Parks and Facilities Manager on September 2.
