The province’s rural and remote health minister is touring Prince Albert and Shellbrook today to meet with local leadership and health care staff and share more about government investments in health care.

This year’s budget earmarked $462 million for major capital projects, which includes $322 million for the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital Acute Care Tower construction. So far, the project has reached its 25 per cent completion milestone. When finished, it will increase hospital capacity by 40 per cent, to 242 inpatient beds.

“Our government is proud of the investments we are making in health infrastructure throughout the province and are committed to improving access to health care for patients,” Carr said. “Our priority is ensuring all residents of Saskatchewan receive the care they need, when they need it, close to home.”

Since 2024-25, the government invested $3.4 million in the existing hospital. Those recent investments have included a new anesthetic machine, and software for endoscopy. The new investments will include an elevator, roofing, building envelope and HVAC improvements. It will also have a new ENT microscope, fracture table, and a cryostat for anatomic pathology. All that will support rapid diagnoses.
