Sask. Mixed Golf tournament hosted in North Battleford

The 2025 Saskatchewan Mixed Golf Championship took place at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, with 32 pairs of golfers competing for first place.

Regina golfers Alex Schmidt and Joergen Viken took home the trophy for first prize after tying the championship record for lowest score. They won the event by 16 strokes after shooting 7-under par 65 on Saturday and 5-under par 67 on Sunday.

A four-hole playoff was needed to determine second place after Elanne Krainyk and Colton McAllister were tied with Holly Knudsen and Keaton Kelln. Krainyk and McAllister eventually claimed the number two spot after a par on hole three after two attempts to break it on hole 18 and one try on hole three.

North Battleford Golf and Country Club Director Dana Johnson said the out-of-town participants enjoyed the laid-back environment that the course provided.

“It’s more of a relaxed atmosphere and everyone, even the people from southern Saskatchewan that drove all the way up to play, were impressed with the conditions of the golf course and I think everyone left the North Battleford Golf and Country Club who had never played here thought the facility was fabulous and are going to come back just to play golf next time.”

2025 was the first time the North Battleford Golf and Country Club hosted the mixed tournament. Johnson said the course has experience hosting tournaments and was excited to add another one to the list.

“We held the Provincial Amateur and Ladies Amateur in 2022 and many other provincial events in years past. This was the mixed event that we held, and they move it around the province to different courses per year. So, we were happy to host it this year, and a lot of new people came out to experience the golf tournament.”

North Battleford had five local duos compete in the tournament, with Nevin and Kristy Gloe placing the highest among them at fourth.
