Two gold medal winners lead Team Sask into Summer Games closing ceremonies
The Canada Summer Games held closing ceremonies on Sunday evening, with diver Lila Stewart and Para Athletic Sprinter Brendan Cote-Williamson serving as flag bearers to lead Team Sask into the ceremonies.
Stewart, who won three gold medals in diving at the games, said she felt proud to serve as a representative for both her province and teammates.
“I think it’s super special. I feel honoured to represent the Saskatchewan flag and represent my province. It was super fun being in the village and having the whole Team Sask behind me, with other sports coming and watching our events. To come away with medals is such an honour and I’m so proud to have done so well this week.”
Seventeen-year-old Stewart earned her first gold medal of the games on Aug. 19 in the Women’s Artistic Dive event. She won bronze the next day in the Women’s 3m Springboard, before taking her second gold medal in Women’s 1m Springboard. She then won her third and final gold medal of the games in the team event, beating second-place Quebec by 48.25 points.
