Meadow Lake, surrounding areas to face overnight power outage Aug. 27

Residents in Green Lake, Waterhen Lake, Goodsoil, Loon Lake, Pierceland, Beauval, Pinehouse, Canoe Narrows, Patuanak and Meadow Lake will be without electricity overnight on Aug. 27 as SaskPower carries out the second phase of a grid-strengthening project.

The Crown corporation said the planned outage will begin at midnight and last until 4 a.m.

“We usually try to do these where it’s at minimal demand time,” Meadow Lake MLA and minister responsible for SaskPower, Jeremy Harrison, told meadowlakeNOW in a previous interview.

The work follows a July 9 outage that marked the first step of the two-phase program. SaskPower crews have already installed a new capacitor bank at the Meadow Lake switching station and will use the August shutdown to add a second transformer.

“What I tasked SaskPower with when I became minister was how can we strengthen that grid and increase the reliability of our power supply in the northwest,” Harrison said.

Harrison also noted that the company is spending more than $60 million this year on grid improvements in the region, including pole replacements and other line upgrades.
