Panhandler Charity Golf Classic raises $90K for NRHF End-of-Life Campaign

Armstrong said many of us have had to sit in a palliative room as a loved one nears the end of their lives, and they wanted to raise money to create a more comfortable space, and “give these families some dignity and comfort during that time.”

The generosity of Nipawin and area was incredible this year, and Armstrong is very thankful to everyone who helped make the achievement possible. She said the funds come from a variety of places, including sponsorship.

The pledge drive war helped bring in $40,000, double the Foundation’s goal.

“That’s just people panhandling, asking for funds, and people get their donation receipt returned.”

Armstrong said the success of the End-of-Life Campaign fundraiser shows the giving spirit of the region, as well as the trust people put in the Nipawin Region Health Foundation to use the funds appropriately.

Next year’s Panhandler Golf Classic will be held Aug. 21, and Armstrong said they have not decided what they will be raising money for yet. The Panhandler Charity Golf Classic is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year, and Armstrong said it keeps growing.

Since Armstrong started as executive director three years ago, the money raised at the event has gone from $60,000 to $70,000, to $90,000. You can still donate by mailing the Foundation or by setting up an appointment.

That’s not the only significant donation made as of late. Armstrong said an anonymous donor has given $80,000 to go toward the Home Care Bathing Room at the hospital.
