No arrests in Southend man’s death after eight years

The family of a Southend man who was killed nearly eight years ago is renewing their call to the public for information about what may have happened.

Pierre Dominic Morin was found deceased in the community on Sept. 1, 2017. Shortly after his death, the RCMP ruled it a homicide, but no charges were ever laid in the case.

His aunt Shirley Morin-Cook of Brabant Lake said even though almost eight years have passed by, her nephew’s passing is still difficult to talk about.

“The truth will, I hope, come out soon because we have been thinking [about him] every day. It is hard for us,” she said.

“There’s nothing going on still and nobody ever contacted us once. We want us to go on soon to find whoever did this to my nephew. It is really hard for us as a family. It’s so hard to talk about it.”

Morin-Cook believes there are people in Southend who know what happened to her nephew, but nobody has been willing to come forward. She said the family doesn’t feel good that residents won’t contact investigators with whatever information they might have.

Morin-Cook plans on travelling to Southend on Sept. 1 to pray and think about the memories she shared with him.

In an email to larongeNOW, an RCMP spokesperson explained investigators continue to work on the case.

“Investigators follow up on tips received, pursue leads, and remain committed to determining who is responsible for Pierre’s death and bringing them to justice,” the statement noted.

Anyone with information about Morin’s homicide is urged to report it to police. Tips can be submitted by calling 310-RCMP (7267) or thier local police department. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
