Folks will be giving summer one last hurrah this long weekend, and they’ll have the weather and the fireworks to go out with a bang.

The fireworks display originally planned for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21 was cancelled due to a citywide fire ban. Instead, it will take place tonight at 9 p.m. on Prince Albert’s riverbank.

There are several other events happening around Prince Albert this long weekend including a one-of-a-kind, feel-good fundraiser to help purchase life-saving equipment for Victoria Hospital.

Tapestry Yoga is leading a 40-minute outdoor class on Saturday that blends gentle yoga with the company of baby goats to help reduce stress, lift your mood, and spark genuine laughter.

Valerie McDougall is hosting the event at her farm just east of Prince Albert in honour of her granddaughter Arabelle, who passed away two years ago.

“We’re donating all the money we raise on Saturday in our granddaughter Arabelle’s name to Equip the Vic,” said McDougall. “She had such a great spirit of kindness and we just are inspired to keep her legacy alive and we really hope that this will inspire others in the community to give to the Boreal Healthcare Foundation as well.”

The Kinsmen Water Park has closed for the season, but the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre Aquatics Area is now open for public swimming. The cost is $7.50 for youth and seniors, $12.75 for adults, and $40 for families. Children five and under are free.

The capacity for the new pool is 200 people and it is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, family swim time is 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by public swimming until 5:30 p.m.

On holiday Monday, lane swimming runs from noon until 1 p.m. and public swimming starts at 1 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m.

The Prince Albert Raiders training camp is underway at the Art Hauser Centre. The annual Green and White game takes place on Monday at 11 a.m. Admission to watch the game is a donation to the food bank.

Environment Canada is predicting highs of 33 C for Friday and Saturday in Prince Albert, 30 C on Sunday and 25 C on Labour Day Monday.

If you’re looking for things to do beyond the long weekend, registration is now open for the City of Prince Albert’s fall arts and recreation programs which include pottery and art classes, cooking for kids and fitness class options including an introduction to Tai Chi.
