Man charged after three P.A. businesses lit on fire in two hours

A 50-year-old man is charged with two counts of arson and may be facing a third after multiple incidents yesterday morning.

The series of fires started at 9:20 a.m. when Prince Albert police were called to a business in the 1600 block of 2nd Ave. W. after a man lit the wheel of a vehicle on fire.

At about 11:00 a.m., the 7-Eleven on 2nd Ave. W. was also the target of arson. Police allege the suspect lit something on fire on a shelf inside the convenience store.

Both police and fire responded to the scene.

Just after 11:30 a.m., emergency crews were called to a third business on the 2500 block of 2nd Ave. W. for a man who lit a rag on fire. It was extinguished by staff before fire crews arrived.

Officers determined the description of the suspect for two of the fires matched, and shortly afterwards, found the man at a business in the 2900 block of 2nd Ave. W. where he was arrested.

Police said they found a lighter on the suspect when he was searched.

The man, who has not been named as yet, was charged with arson, break and enter and arson with disregard for life.

The investigation into the incident at the 7-Eleven continues and police are looking for anyone with information to call them at 306-953-4222.
