Activity Expo in Melfort on Wednesday replacing City Wide Registration

Sep 2, 2025 | 4:49 PM

The City of Melfort is hosting an event to help residents learn more about the activities and groups available to them.

Formerly known as City Wide Registration Night, this year the event is called the Activity Expo.

Recreation and Aquatics Manager Shannon Marshall told northeastNOW they decided to improve the evening, as interest in the registration nights dropped over the years.

“I think people were looking for just a little bit more, so we’ve kind of revamped it, what it has to offer,” explained Marshall.

The new Activity Expo features more than the traditional sports activity information and sign-ups for kids and youth, as Marshall said they have broadened the horizons a little.

“We want to make sure to invite everybody, not just sport but culture and recreation organizations too, and then encourage everybody to come out.”

People can still sign up on the spot for kids and youth sports, but this year’s event offers more options on the culture and recreation side that might appeal to all ages.

“Everything from the Melfort Fire Department, we have the new Melfort Lions Club that’s going to be represented, the Northern Lights Woodcarvers, just different things that people can get involved in in the community,” Marshall said. “We really wanted to promote all that, because they’re all things that make our community vibrant and connected.”

Marshall said the response to the change to the Activity Expo has been positive, with over 30 organizations signed up so far. She added it’s a great way to see what organizations are in Melfort and area, and what types of activities you can become involved in if you choose.

Also new this year is the Connection Passport.

Marshall said people can grab the Connection Passport at the welcome table as they come in. They can then go around to every table, and each organization has a sticker they can put on the ‘passport’. Residents can then bring their filled-out passports to the welcome table, and they will be put in prize draws.

Doors open at the Kerry Vickar Centre Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and the event will be held until 8:30. Marshall said they wanted to give people an opportunity to explore the different organizations and activities available, and having the Activity Expo a three-hour long event allows people to come and go when they have an opportunity.

Marshall said any organizations interested in being part of the Activity Expo can also contact her to be part of the evening.
