Fire departments in the area have been kept busy over the past week or so.

The Wadena Volunteer Fire Department was called to a sewer trench collapse Friday afternoon.

The department said a worker was trapped, and they responded with a technical rescue.

The worker was recovered by the contractors and was then moved to an ambulance for assessment and treatment by EMS.

The Kinistino Fire Department (KFD) responded to a collision between a car and semi-trailer north of Weldon late Saturday afternoon.

There were no serious injuries, but the department said the collision could have been much worse.

They remind motorists that there are many large trucks and equipment on the road with harvest, and they kick up a lot of dust.

The KFD had two other calls on Friday, when they responded to a field fire in the RM of Kinistino.

They were able to bring the fire under control with help from the farmer with a heavy disc.

Early that morning, they were called to a vehicle fire at James Smith Cree Nation.

A truck was fully engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived, and they cooled off the vehicle.

The Tisdale Fire Department (TFD) responded to a two-vehicle collision with entrapment Friday morning.

They were able to use the Jaws of Life to extract the lone occupant, who was then safely taken to hospital by EMS.

The lone occupant of the other vehicle was checked out at the scene and released.

The department was also called out to a vehicle fire Thursday morning.

The truck was fully on fire by the time fire crews arrived, and they were able to put out the flames.

The TFD was also dispatched to a combine fire last Wednesday afternoon, and the combine was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived. They were able to prevent any further damage to nearby crops.
