Thief nabbed in Marshall after flight from police in four stolen vehicles

An Ontario man is in police custody after multiple incidents involving stolen vehicles and fleeing from officers last week.

Members of the Maidstone RCMP detachment learned about a car driving erratically on Hwy 16, west of town shortly after 2 p.m. on Aug. 26.

Traffic officers found the car and activated their emergency lights to get the driver to pull over, but they refused and increased their speed instead.

During the flight, the driver went in and out of the ditch several times at highway speed. Eventually, police found the vehicle disabled on a grid road and saw a man run into some nearby trees.

Officers arrested him with some resistance, but he was safely taken into custody, made his court appearance, and was released pending his next court date.

The next day, at 11:30 am, traffic police watched a man break into a vehicle on 4th Ave. E in Maidstone. He was identified as the same man from the day before.

Once again, he ran when officers approached. A little while later, he was seen driving an SUV.

Investigators learned that the man had gone into a nearby home, stolen the vehicle keys, and drove away.

Once again, when officers tried to stop him, the driver did not comply and fled west on Hwy 16.

The suspect drove over a tire deflation device, which partially deflated the tires, but he managed to get into the Town of Marshall before all of the tires were flat.

Police said the driver got out of the still-moving vehicle and ran on foot, allowing the SUV to hit an unoccupied vehicle that was parked nearby.

Police then located him in a fourth stolen vehicle – a pickup – that was in a parking lot and blocked off the exit with their marked vehicle before approaching on foot. The truck reversed and hit the officer’s vehicle repeatedly, then hit a second police car, left the parking lot and drove out of town.

The stolen truck was driven down a dead-end road and into a field where it got stuck, so the driver got out and ran on foot, however, officers tracked him down. The suspect resisted when he was told he was under arrest and was stunned with a conducted energy device, at which point he was taken into custody.

In connection with the incidents, a 25-year-old Brampton man is facing multiple charges of resisting arrest, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft of a vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and break and enter.

He is remanded and scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on September 4, 2025.
