After opening the preseason with a 4-1 loss in an all rookie/prospect matchup with the Saskatoon Blades, a few veterans were sprinkled into the lineup for both teams as the Prince Albert Raiders welcomed the Blades for a rematch. The Raiders had the lead twice, but the Blades would come back and take the win 5-4 in a shootout.

The Blades opened the scoring at the 10:56 when defenceman Jack Lavallee potted a rebound that came across the crease, but the Raiders quickly tied it up at 12:11 when a shot from the point by Liam Myhre was tipped into the net by Jonah Sivertson battling for the puck.

At 18:51, the Raiders added their ownly powerplay goal on their only powerplay of the night. Ben Harvey got the puck to Brock Cripps, and Cripps made a great head fake before passing the puck to his left for a waiting Connor Howe, and Howe ripped it off the bar and in.

The Raiders extended the lead to 3-1 when Ben Harvey got his own rebound on the rush, and Harvey fired a great shot under the bar that found the back of the net at the 14:52 mark.

The Blades then got two powerplays near the end of the period, and they capitalized on them both. First, Ben Bowtell took the puck around the back of the Raider goal, but as goaltender Chase Kettles went to readjust for a play on his left, but Bowtell sent it to his right and Dustin Willhoft scored the onetimer goal.

Shortly after, and Willhoft returned the favour by setting up Bowtell on the rush, and this time he would get all of it to tie the game at 3-3.

At 18:16, the Raiders took the lead right back. On the forecheck, Owen Corkish stole the puck and went for a wrap around where it looked like he intended to shoot, but in reality he was sending a great pass to a streaking Knox Burton who took the lead back for the Raiders.

After 2: Raiders 4 – 3 Blades, shots 11-6 Raiders, 27-12 Raiders overall

In the third period, scoring came right down until a halt. Both teams traded back and forth but neither goaltender gave up much until Gavin Clark tied it at the 12:44 after a scramble ensued in the Raider crease. Clark was in the right place at the right time, and he reached behind Kettles to tap the puck in.

In the dying seconds of overtime, Ben Harvey was denied on a breakaway and given the penalty shot, but he was stopped on that too. In the following shootout, the Raiders sent Jonah Sivertson and Brock Cripps to the line for their chances to shoot, but neither would score. Both Bowell and Willhoft scored on their shootout attempts, and the Blades rookies took the win for the second straight night.

FINAL (SO): Raiders 4 – 5 Blades, shots 49-21 Raiders

The Blades will be back in Prince Albert on Friday with the third of four preseason games between the teams.
