Two months after a woman was stabbed over 20 times, the resulting court case appears to be heading to trial.

Through their respective lawyers, Tyson Lachance and Isaiah Peekeekoot have both elected to be tried by jury at Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert.

The case was discussed Wednesday morning at provincial court.

At this stage of the court proceedings, no pleas have been entered and dates for a preliminary inquiry hearing will be set on Sept. 17.

The assault occurred in July near Carlton Court plaza.

The victim and her friend were walking back from the store and a kitchen knife was recovered at the scene by police.

Lachance was previously released on bail and Peekeekoot, the man alleged to have stabbed the victim, was denied bail on July 31.

Due to the fact that the case could proceed to trial and be heard by a jury, a publication ban was placed on all the evidence heard during the half-hour-long hearing. This included the judge’s reasons for denying bail.

A statement provided earlier by police confirmed that on July 12, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers were called to the area of Sixth Ave. East and 28 Street East for a report of a physical altercation involving multiple people.

Passers by called 9-1-1.

Peekeekoot and Tyson Lachance, who are involved in a relationship, were arrested at a nearby residence.
