Former Sask. Premier Lorne Calvert loses home in fire at Buffalo Pound Lake

The home of former Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert was completely destroyed in a fire on Tuesday.

According to Bethune Emergency Services, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the fire at Buffalo Pound Lake at around 3:30 p.m.

No further details were shared by the fire department, but the home was left in a charred ruin by the blaze.

Crews returned to the scene to douse hot spots on Wednesday morning. They were joined by Calvert, who thanked them for their efforts.

He told 980 CJME reporter Gillian Massie that he and his wife Betty have some big decisions to make in the days ahead.

Calvert, 72, served as premier from 2001 to 2007, and continued to lead the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party until 2009.
