Two men charged after stolen vehicle crashes into tree while trying to flee

Sep 13, 2025 | 5:08 PM

Two men are in police custody after trying to get away from Battlefords RCMP in a stolen car.

The incident happened yesterday at around 4:45 p.m. when members of the RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team Gang Task Force located a truck driving around North Battleford that was reported stolen out of Turtleford.

The truck then parked outside an apartment building on 108th Street, where officers used their vehicles to try to block the truck from driving away.

In response, the truck reversed into one of the police vehicles and two other civilian vehicles before driving forward through a fence and colliding with a tree in the backyard of a nearby property in an attempt to flee. The two occupants then got out of the truck and ran on foot.

Officers, along with RCMP Police Dog Services, followed the suspects and arrested them a short time later. One of the suspects was taken to hospital for minor injuries related to his arrest and was released back into police custody.

Upon searching the stolen truck, police found a loaded prohibited firearm, an imitation firearm, ammunition, soft body armour and bear spray, among other items.

As a result, 26-year-old Dawson Moccasin from Saulteaux First Nation and 22-year-old Kienan Moccasin from Cochin are both facing numerous weapons related charges along with resisting arrest, while Dawson Moccasin has also been handed several fleeing and mischief charges.

Both will appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday.
