Police searching for escaped inmate from Sask. Penitentiary in P.A.

Police are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Donald Buchanan, an inmate who wasn’t accounted for at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Saturday night.

Staff realized Buchanan was missing during the 9:30 p.m. count at the multi-level security federal institution.

“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Prince Albert Police Service and the Prince Albert Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and a warrant for the inmate’s arrest has been issued,” read the release from CSC.

Buchanan is 28-years-old, 6’2″ and weighs 166 lbs.

He has fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair and multiple tattoos including a koi fish on his right arm, “Trans Canada” on his right wrist, a cross with a razor blade on his upper right arm and “YXE”, a plane and cartoon figure on his right hand.

He is currently serving a sentence of two years for possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and possession of a prohibited weapon knowing it’s unauthorized.

CSC said it will investigate the circumstances of the incident and they are working with the police to locate the offender as quickly as possible..
