This article was updated to reflect new information from the RCMP reported at 9:22 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

Saskatchewan RCMP continue to ask the public for help during their investigation into the suspicious death of a 44-year old woman from Weyburn Friday night.

According to the RCMP, two women were travelling together in a black Ford Explorer towards Weyburn when they heard a “loud crack.”

The investigation determined someone had shot a firearm from behind the SUV, which struck and entered the travelling vehicle, hitting the female passenger.

She died at the scene.

Late Sunday evening, police said the owner of the white truck that the RCMP were looking for had been identified. The vehicle was seen parked alongside Hwy 39 at the time of the shooting, however, investigators determined its presence is NOT connected to the suspicious death and RCMP no longer require additional information from the public about the white truck.

Seeking information about vehicle/trailer:

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigators are seeking the public’s assistance to help identify the owner/driver of a vehicle pulling a trailer – they would like to speak with them to assist the ongoing investigation. Police do not have any other descriptives to provide of the vehicle/trailer. The vehicle and trailer traveled south on Range Road 2151 northwest of Weyburn and stopped at the intersection of Hwy 39 – in between the Viterra and Richardson Pioneer Ltd. grain terminals/elevators. The vehicle/trailer then turned northwest on Highway #39, driving away from Weyburn. This occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Sept. 12 and given this timing, the owner/driver may have valuable information to assist the investigation.

Anyone who may have seen this vehicle/trailer on September 12, or may know who this was is asked to contact Saskatchewan RCMP.

RCMP asking for public’s help

Investigators are asking anyone in the area, especially those with buildings or homes along Highway 39 into Weyburn and Highway 13, to check video surveillance or house/doorbell camera footage between 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.

“If you note any suspicious people or vehicles or anything out of the ordinary, please call and report it,” RCMP said in a statement.

RCMP Major Crimes said it has received many tips from the public so far.

“We thank everyone for coming forward with information, as you never know what might be important,” it said.

Inspector Ashley St. Germaine of the RCMP Major Crimes Branch reiterated this message when speaking to media on Saturday.

“We need all the information that we can get, because we don’t know right now, and the public doesn’t know right now, what little piece might be the turning point for our investigation,” she said.

“So we want to get every single thing that we can to forward this investigation.”
