Battlefords RCMP launch night patrols to tackle property crime

Sep 15, 2025 | 4:31 PM

Mounties in the Battlefords are stepping up efforts to tackle property crime with the lauch of targeted night patrols beginning this week.

Officers will patrol both on foot and bicycle, sometimes in uniform and sometimes in plain clothes, across the Town of Battleford and the City of North Battleford.

The patrols will be carried out randomly at night in hopes of deterring thefts, break-ins and vehicle crimes.

“We know from the reports we receive that property crime is a concern in certain areas,” said Insp. Ryan How, detachment commander of the Battlefords RCMP, in a media release issued Monday.

“With these targeted night patrols, we want to respond to property crime calls more rapidly, and we want to deter property crime before it’s committed,” he said. “Ultimately, we want to tell residents ‘We hear you and we are reorganizing our resources as best as we can to help you feel safer.’”

The initiative also includes a focus on bicycle thefts, which will involve municipal Community Safety Officers and specialized investigative technology.

Chief Lindsay Holm, North Battleford’s director of protective services, said the city’s officers are committed to the collaboration.

“Data shows us that property crimes are a consistent concern in our community, and we want to assure residents that we understand these incidents impact their sense of safety and wellbeing,” Holm wrote.

“This coordinated effort is one of many crime prevention and deterrence initiatives underway in North Battleford to enhance overall community safety and we look forward to seeing the results of these efforts.”

How pointed out that the public can help by reporting suspicious activity, noting that “property crime is often linked to serious crime.”

“It also helps us make our police patrols more accurate.”

The night patrols were developed with help from North Battleford Community Safety Officers and Battlefords Citizens on Patrol, and will operate alongside regular RCMP shifts.

To report crime and suspicious activities in the Battlefords areas, contact Battlefords RCMP at (306) 446-1720. In other areas, please call 310-RCMP. In an emergency, call 911.
