The hockey community is mourning the loss of Orca Wiesblatt, who is the brother of former Prince Albert Raider Ozzy Weisblatt.

According to a post on the ECHL website, 25-year-old Orca passed away in an automobile accident over the weekend at the age of 25.

Orca had signed a contract with Allen Americans for the 2025-26 season after racking up 42 points in 37 games with Athen’s Rock Lobsters of the Federal Prospect Hockey League. Prior to turning pro, he spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen posting 104 points in 138 games.

“We are all heartbroken,” said Americans Head Coach and General Manager Steve Martinson. “Orca (Weisblatt) was really looking forward to this next step in his hockey career. He wasn’t just skilled, he was a momentum changing hitter. I can still see his grin when he would return to the bench after one of his big hits. That is what we will miss the most, his infectious smile.”
