7-Eleven Canada teams up with Food Banks for ‘Slurpee Name Your Price’ day

There’s a good reason to get a brain freeze tomorrow, Thursday Sept. 18.

Canadians can purchase a large 7-Eleven Slurpee for any price, above a minimum of .50 cents, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to Food Banks Canada, in support of local food banks.

“Each year, we are astounded by the generosity of Canadians participating in Name Your Price Day,” said Marc Goodman, vice president and general manager of 7-Eleven Canada. “On September 18, we give Canadians the choice to pay as much as they want for their large Slurpee; and more often than not, Canada’s kind-hearted nature shines through. This year, I challenge Canadians to channel their love for Slurpee into their communities by donating a few extra cents, because every nickel, dime and quarter goes a long way.”

Last year, Saskatchewan customers purchased over 9,900 Slurpees and raised more than $13,000. According to Food Banks of Saskatchewan, since 2019 food banks have seen a 42.1 per cent increase in usage, putting a strain on the 26 food banks across the province.

“It is an incredibly difficult time for so many across the country. With more than two million people in Canada turning to food banks every month, the need for support has never been more urgent,” shared Erin Filey-Wronecki, chief development and partnerships officer, Food Banks Canada.

In addition to Slurpee Name Your Price Day, Canadians can donate to the food insecurity crisis by rounding up their purchases to the next dollar from now until Oct. 28 with all proceeds supporting local food banks.
