Nanaimo, B.C.’s Finlay Klippenstein is the newest member of the Battlefords North Stars.

Klippenstein played for three different teams across Jr A leagues last year including the Estevan Bruins of the SJHL. However, he only played three games with the Bruins.

Klippenstein spent most of his time last season with the Kerry Park Islanders of the Vancouver Islander Jr Hockey League (VIJHL). He spent 13 games with the team, putting up 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points before finishing the season with the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

North Stars head coach Connor Logan mentioned he felt the team “could have got a little bit bigger” and the 6-0 forward certainly helps with that. Logan mentioned that the team is thrilled to have him.

“Just seeing him a couple days in practice. He does a great job holding onto pucks, playing that heavy type of game, but still has some elusiveness offensively and a good shot. I think he’s going to fit in really well…He seems like a high character kid and has high compete and has shown really well through the first couple of practices here and we’re excited to see him in the game.”

Going to a new team and situation so close to the start of the season can be tough, but Klippenstein already feels positive about the community.

“It’s looking good. Obviously a lot of these towns in Saskatchewan are a bit smaller, but Battleford’s a good size and I’ve been liking it so far. I’ve good a good billet too, so going well.”

When asked about his playstyle, Klippenstein described himself as a “good puck mover.” He also said he is good at puck protection, making that first pass and putting the puck in the net as well. He also talked about what he wants North Stars fans to know about him before the season.

“I work my hardest every night and I want to succeed as much as they want us to succeed.”

Klippenstein will have his first shot to prove himself to North Stars fans at the home opener on Friday, Sept. 19 vs the Kindersley Klippers.
