Ice Wolves fall against Bombers in home opener

Sep 20, 2025 | 11:01 PM

The La Ronge Ice Wolves have officially began their first regular season at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre on Saturday.

The team was up against the Flin Flon Bombers, who they lost to 9-4 on Friday. Redemption on Saturday, however, wasn’t in the cards as the Ice Wolves fell for the second night in a row by 5-1.

“Flin Flon is a good team. It was a much better effort than last night in Flin Flon,” said Assistant Coach Kyle Graham.

“I thought our puck movement and passes were much better. Our intensity was there, but still we have to play a full 60 minutes, and we didn’t quite do that tonight and we got into some penalty trouble, but there is a lot to build off of this game. We’ve got a young lineup, they are learning lots.”

The Bombers took an early lead and were up 4-0 by the end of the second period. Just over three minutes into the third, Ryder McAslan scored the first goal for the Ice Wolves with an assist from Dayton Tailfeathers.

That would be the only goal for the Ice Wolves as the Bombers’ Xavier Fauchon secured the final goal of the game with about four minutes left on the clock.

There were four notable penalties in the game, both coming from the Bombers. Joey Lies and Nathan Lalumiere received 10-minute game misconducts and major penalties for fighting during the third.

With Ice Wolves Head Coach Kevin Kaminski not present the last two games due to a medical emergency, Graham had to step into his shoes and guide the team.

“He’s still sending me texts between periods on what we need to work on and what not and he’s still being a great help,” Graham said.

“Just getting thrown into the fire a bit is good for me. I think as a first-year coach, it is really good experience in learning how to run the bench, deal with different personalities on the bench, when to throw out lines, which lines and what not.”

The Ice Wolves next home game is scheduled for Sept. 23 against the Melfort Mustangs.
