Cree artist’s mural to be unveiled at Melfort Fire Hall on Thursday

An exciting unveiling in Melfort on Thursday.

The City of Melfort, Northern Lights Gallery, and the Melfort Arts Council have announced the unveiling of Making Memories, a new mural by Canadian Cree artist Jerry Whitehead, with some contributions from some local artists.

Whitehead is a member of the Peter Chapman Band and has painted large murals across the country.

“His iconic representations of powwow dancers are present in the new work,” a news release stated. “This mural is a tribute to the local EMTs, firefighters, and RCMP who helped James Smith Cree Nation in very trying times, and who continue to forge relationships based on respect and trust.”

The mural will be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Melfort Fire Hall on Saskatchewan Dr. W.
