A 29-year-old man is facing multiple charges after two truck thefts and a police pursuit in Salvador, a community in the Rural Municipality of Grass Lake No. 381, about a 45-minute drive from Unity.

Unity RCMP say officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on Sept. 24, where a man was seen entering a black truck that later matched the description of a stolen vehicle.

Luseland Police Service spotted the truck near Salvador and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. RCMP say civilian drivers also began following the truck and were told not to intervene.

“If you are aware of a crime being committed, or you have information that can help an investigation, please contact police, do not take matters into your own hands,” RCMP said in a release issued Sept. 26.

The truck was later found abandoned near Denzil, but the suspect was gone. Police say a grey truck was reported stolen in the same area later that day and was later recovered in Unity.

As a result of continued investigation, officers arrested Ricky Vidnes at a nearby residence and charged him with possession of property obtained by crime under and over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, two counts of motor vehicle theft, and failing to comply with an undertaking .

Vidnes is scheduled to appear in North Battleford provincial court on Sept. 29.
