Sadlemyer hat trick lifts Mustangs over Ice Wolves in OT

The Melfort Mustangs completed another comeback effort over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday.

A Zayden Sadlemyer hat trick lifted the club to victory, 4-3 in overtime.

“The first period was good, but the past couple of games we’ve taken a period off and it’s shot us in the foot. We really reset and responded in the third period and overtime. Everyone was going at the end there,” explained Mustangs’ forward Will Munro.

“Sadlemyer is a great player because he knows exactly where the puck is going to go. It’s really nice to play with a guy like that because every time you throw the puck at the net, you just know he’s right there and is getting a great opportunity to put it in the back of the net. I’m happy for him to get that hat trick because I know how hard he works.”

Munro had an assist on every Sadlemyer goal, as Melfort came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period.

While the Stangs ultimately showed great resiliency in the win, they’re hoping that they don’t have to come back again, Saturday night in Flin Flon.

“The belief that we have in each other allows us to stay in it. After a hard period, we can be honest with one another and understand that we didn’t do our best. We know that we’re gonna be able to turn it around and trust the guys beside us to get their jobs done,” Munro concluded.

“If we play like we did in the third against Flin Flon, a fast team that’s hard and physical, it’ll benefit us even more in that rink. Obviously, we just can’t take a period off there because it is a pretty hostile place, and they’re a great team.”
