UPDATED: Planned move from Hague to Denare Beach Monday: Sask. highways

Update: On Monday, Sept. 29 the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency clarified that a singular modular home being moved from Hague to Denare Beach is that of a private resident and the move is not related to the 35 temporary housing units that the SPSA announced on Sept. 12.

“As this is a privately owned structure not associated with the Government of Saskatchewan or the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, we are unable to provide additional details,” the SPSA told paNOW.

On Saturday, the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline posted on it’s Facebook page that ‘a major move is planned to begin Monday from near Saskatoon (Hague) to Denare Beach’ and that travellers on Highway 120, 106 and 167 should take note.

Earlier this month, it was reported the Government of Saskatchewan was providing up to 35 temporary modular homes for Creighton and Denare Beach residents who lost their homes in the Wolf Fire this summer.

The Wolf Fire destroyed more than 400 structures, including more than 200 homes in the village of Denare Beach.

The province said the housing units will be available for residents in October.

At that time, Denare Beach Councillor Karen Thomson said the announcement was very welcome news, especially with winter looming.

She said said around 35 families and or individuals have been identified for support, and most of them will be situated in Creighton.

Recently, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe made a surprise visit to visit Denare Beach. Thomson said they were only expecting cabinet ministers to attend the scheduled update meeting.

At that meeting, she said Moe talked about how the province can support mental health needs for residents, along with financial assistance to help with the rebuild.
