Hawks on road seeking second straight win
For the third time in four games to start the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season the Hawks will be on the road Tuesday.
Nipawin has a pair of wins in three games to start the campaign and will take on the Millinaires in Melville on Tuesday. The Hawks are coming off a 5-3 win in La Ronge on Saturday. Nipawin took seven minor penalties in the win, and another 11 in a 4-1 loss to Flin Flon Friday in their home opener. Head Coach Tad Kozun said he’s pleased with the team’s start, but discipline needs to be better as the Hawks have been on the penalty kill 24 times in just the three games.
“There is a lot of work to do still,” he said Tuesday morning. “Obviously our discipline needs to be better, we’ve been spending way too much time in the box. We need to play more five-on-five and get guys into the game, but obviously to be two and one right now we are in a good spot.”
The Millionaires have been consistent so far this year with a record of one win, one regulation loss, and a pair of losses to Humboldt in a shootout and overtime. Melville is expected to a be contender early in the year, so Kozun expects a tough test for his club in the first meeting with the Millionaires.
