Mustangs add experienced Alberta forward

Oct 1, 2025 | 5:21 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have made a trade.

Sending away future considerations to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, the Mustangs have acquired forward Reis Nyland.

Nyland is a 19-year-old product of La Glace, Alta.

Listed at six-foot-one and weighing 185 pounds, the 2006-born forward has spent parts of four seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

Three of those seasons have come with the Oil Barons, in which Nyland produced 11 points over 44 games through the 2023/24 campaign until this season.

Meanwhile, in the 2022/23 year, he was called up to the Grande Prairie Storm for seven contests.

Nyland joins a Melfort team that is currently 2-1-1 on the season, and has a weekend home-and-home set against the Battlefords North Stars, beginning Friday in Melfort, as their next scheduled matches.
