North Battleford Home Hardware celebrates grand opening

Oct 2, 2025 | 5:39 PM

Home Hardware Building Centre has been open in North Battleford for a few years already, but the owners never had a chance to celebrate the grand opening officially until now.

Earle Toews and his wife bought the store during the COVID pandemic when public gatherings were prohibited.

“We’ve been busy just trying to build the store up and make sure that we have something that was really great to give back to our customers,” said Toews. “We’re about five years too late on our grand opening, but we really want this to be an event to help celebrate our store, our community and our customers.”

Until Saturday, the store is hosting an appreciation event featuring festivities and sales; some select items are up to 75 per cent off.

“I can’t even say the discounts because there’s so many,” said Toews. “We’ve also got games throughout the store … guessing games where you can win a prize or spin a wheel to win a prize.”

The games and events will also help raise money for TeleMiracle. Toews said a donation will get you into the grand prize draw for an Edmonton Oilers ticket package worth more than $5,000, and there will be other smaller prizes drawn for as well.

For Toews, connecting with the community is an important part of his business.

“We’re always just incredibly grateful for the people that come in here day after day and the people that we’ve met through this store…people we’ve known for a long time and people we’re meeting for the first time. It’s very humbling to know that we can make a difference in this community and it’s because of the people here.”

Toews also takes pride in letting customers know that the vast majority of products in store are either Canadian sourced or manufactured in Canada.

“We are a 100 per cent Canadian company – 100 per cent locally owned, locally managed, and locally run. We strive to provide as much Canadian content as we possibly can. It’s not hard for us because we are a Canadian company, and that’s what people are looking for.”

As part of the first day of celebrations Thursday, players from the Battlefords North Stars signed autographs and played street hockey with kids. Toews mentioned the Battlefords AAA Sharks and Stars have games this weekend, so it was tougher for them to be involved in the event, but he supports all sports in the community.

The grand-opening festivities continue until Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. The public is invited to stop in and enjoy some coffee, snacks, and hot chocolate, interactive games, contests, a silent auction, food trucks, and special promotions across the store.
