Bridge being replaced with culverts north of Melfort

A culvert replacement near Melfort is highlighted on the list of projects in the latest Department of Highways construction update.

The project on Highway 6, about nine kilometres north of Melfort started on Monday, and is costing an estimated $925,000.

The construction was necessary “to remove a bridge nearing the end of its service life and replace it with three culverts,” the government news release stated. “The culverts will be installed by open excavation.”

Traffic in the area will be reduced to one lane on a temporary road and will be controlled by a stoplight.

Work is slated to be completed this fall.

“Thank you to all motorists for your ongoing patience and understanding when approaching any work on or near streets and roads as projects continue moving forward,” Highways Minister David Marit said in the release. “Please remember to slow down, obey all signs and instructions. We want everyone to get home safely.”

The release said the Orange Zone Update and Highway Hotline updates allow drivers and shippers to plan more efficient routes to reach their destinations.

Other projects highlighted this week include the replacement of two culverts in the Lafleche area, and the installation of a pair of culverts on Highway 4 south of Rosetown.
