Discovery Co-op launches major Food Store upgrade in North Battleford

Discovery Co-op has announced a sweeping renovation of its Food Store in North Battleford, with construction set to begin Oct. 4 and continue for the next 17 months.

The project will combine the grocery store, pharmacy and liquor operations under one roof while adding expanded services and redesigned spaces. The store will remain open during construction, with staff and signage guiding shoppers through temporary layout changes.

“This is more than a facelift — it’s about making shopping simple, showcasing local, and keeping everything fresh and transparent,” Discovery Co-op CEO Mike Nord said in a statement on Oct. 3.

“Members will see food made right in front of them, enjoy expanded services, and discover even more local products.”

Planned upgrades include a reimagined bakery with scratch baking and a new Baker’s Nook, an expanded deli with offerings such as oven-baked pizzas, Chester’s Chicken and Bento Sushi, with larger produce, meat and seafood sections.

The liquor store will move into a bigger space inside the Food Store, with a cooler three times its current size. The pharmacy will add two private consultation rooms and broaden its health, beauty and vitamin selection.

A food court-style area will also be created, featuring a retro-themed Co-op Café serving floats, sundaes and comfort foods, alongside a Yellow Sub counter offering its signature sandwiches.

The company says it will provide regular updates throughout the project, and those will be shared in-store, online at discoveryco-op.crs, and across its social media channels.

“Discovery Co-op looks forward to welcoming members throughout the process and celebrating the grand reveal when renovations are complete.”
