Melfort’s Fall Clean Up Week starts on Monday

Melfort residents have a chance to clean their yards with a little less hassle than normal.

Fall Clean Up Week is being held in the city from Oct. 6 to 11.

Director of Public Works Kalyna Cipywnyk said the week is similar to the clean up event in the spring, which is also held annually.

“Landfill tipping fees are waived for Melfort residents for domestic waste that they can bring out to our landfill,” Cipywnyk said. “Proof of residence must be presented to the scale attendant, so that includes your water bill or your driver’s license.”

The waste doesn’t include things like appliances that require freon to be drained.

The clean up week is also handy or people trimming trees, cutting grass, or raking leaves.

Greenland Waste, the city’s garbage collector contractor, will be picking up yard waste as part of the regular garbage pick-up.

“Residents can place yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, garden refuse…in clear plastic bags, and put those bags by their bin on the curb to be picked up [their regular] collection day.”

Tree branches can also be placed by residents’ bins. They must be bundled, cut to four feet or less in length, and under six inches in diameter for pick up.

Cipywnyk reminds residents that the landfill will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Oct. 13.
