The Warman Wolverines powered through a close third period but came up short, falling 4-2 to the unbeaten Flin Flon Bombers at the Whitney Forum on Friday night. Flin Flon’s Joey Lies extended his point streak to three games with a goal and an assist and now has seven points in his last five games, while Ryder Mucha added a pair of assists in the victory.

Kane Kennedy scored his first ever SJHL goal, giving him four points in his last six games for Warman. Taye Timmerman stopped 36 shots in his third straight start for the Wolverines and Matthew Bradley denied 42 shots in his Bombers debut.

Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the opening period of play and it wasn’t until the the 6:19 mark of the 2nd period that Rhett Ewen put a power play goal past Timmerman to make it 1-0 for the home side.

Jack Martin staked the Bombers to a two-goal lead when he fired one home at 10:46, and Flin Flon held that advantage after two periods of play.

In the third, Joey Lies added a goal to his earlier assist when he scored his second of the season to put Flin Flon up 3-0. But the Wolverines battled back and Karson Kerbes ended Matthew Bradley’s shutout attempt with his second goal of the season to get the visitors back within two.

That only led to Wyatt Stinton putting Flin Flon back up by three with his fourth goal in the campaign. Kennedy hit the mark for his first ever SJHL goal to create momentum for the Wolverines in the late stages but it was not enough as Flin Flon held on for their fifth win to remain the only undefeated team in the league.

With the loss, Warman sits fourth in the Nutrien Division at 1-5, while Flon Flon remains perfect at home, standing on top of the league at 5-0. The Wolverines and Bombers are back at it in Flin Flon on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
