Local leaders compete in mocktail challenge

Ever tried a Piña No-lada? How about a Pink Flamingo or Saskatchewan Sunset?

These creative mocktails will be showcased during a new fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Prince Albert next month.

The organization has teamed up with the Community Alcohol Strategy Steering Committee for the first-ever Prince Albert Mocktail Challenge. Six local community champions will present their best alcohol-free drinks Nov. 15 at the Prince Albert Golf & Curling Club.

“There, they’ll compete in a lively, alcohol-free showdown to earn top honours and rally even more community support,” read a release from BBBS.

Until the main event, they’ve committed to raising $3,000 to $5,000 each.

Three titles are up for grabs at the Mocktail Challenge:

  • Top-Seller Bartender – goes to the bartender who serves the most mocktails on event night.
  • Drink of Choice Award – chosen by a panel of judges based on taste and presentation.
  • Mocktail Bartender Champion – awarded to the individual who raises the most donations before and during the event.

Robin Poliszuk will be serving a Mango Lime-o-nade; Evert Botha will mix a Pink Flamingo; Piña No-lada is Brooke Wozniak’s concoction; Dr. Visham Sukkhu’s drink is a Blue Thunder; Tye Moe will mix a Wild North Limonade; and Mayor Bill Powalinsky’s mocktail is called Saskatchewan Sunset.

“This event is all about raising glasses — and raising support — to create healthy spaces and healthy relationships in our community,” said Natasha Thomson, Development Coordinator of BBBS Prince Albert. “Proceeds from this event will help us provide mentorship to local kids who deserve guidance, encouragement, and opportunity.”

The community is encouraged to support their favourite mocktail bartender online by making a donation, and attend the main event to taste the creations, and cheer on the competitors.
