Construction of the new bridge in Air Ronge is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

That’s according to an email to larongeNOW from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways, which states although the wildfire in June slowed progress on the project, it is expected to be completed this year and open fully to traffic as planned.

“Traffic on the existing bridge will remain reduced to one lane until about the middle of this week,” the email noted.

“That’s so work can occur safely to connect existing roads to the new bridge being built. The ministry appreciates the patience and understanding of all drivers during this short-term inconvenience, so that the new bridge will be able to serve the community and motorists for many years to come.”

Work on the $15.8 million project began in May 2025. The current bridge is nearing the end of its service life and materials from it will be disposed of in an environmental-friendly manner.

In addition, a $28 million project to improve about 25 kilometers of Highway 102 north of La Ronge, which also includes an access road at Sucker River, is expected to be fully paved and have traffic resume to regular two-way operation by the end of this fall.

That project also includes the installation of 43 culverts, which began in March 2025. Installation of the remaining five culverts are expected to continue into the new year.

“That work will be done by trenchless culvert installation by burrowing into the side of the highway, which will allow two-way traffic to continue to operate on Highway 102,” the email added.
