Measles exposure alert issued for Lloydminster Hospital

Oct 9, 2025 | 10:11 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is warning the public of a potential measles exposure at Lloydminster Hospital after confirming a case linked to the facility.

Health officials say anyone who was in the hospital’s emergency department or registration area at 3820 43rd Avenue between 2 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 should monitor for symptoms until Oct. 18.

Measles symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, fatigue, irritability, small white spots in the mouth or throat, and a red blotchy rash that spreads from the face down the body several days after symptoms begin.

The SHA says measles is highly contagious and can remain in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours after an infected person coughs or sneezes.

People with measles can spread the virus from four days before a rash appears until four days after it develops.

Anyone who develops symptoms and was at the hospital during the specified period is urged to call HealthLine 811 for advice, contact their doctor or nurse practitioner, and call ahead before visiting any clinic or emergency room so precautions can be taken.

The authority reminds residents that measles is preventable through vaccination, which is safe, effective, and free. People are encouraged to review their immunization status through MySaskHealthRecord or with their health-care provider.
