Bag it and leave it: North Battleford’s annual fall compost collection starts next week

Oct 14, 2025 | 3:24 PM

The City of North Battleford will launch its annual compost and leaf pickup next week, offering residents a free and convenient way to clear their yards before winter.

The collection runs from Monday, Oct. 20 through Monday, Oct. 27, helping divert organic waste from the landfill while city crews prepare for the colder season.

Residents are asked to use transparent plastic or paper yard waste bags containing only leaves, grass clippings, and garden waste. Bags should be placed next to the sidewalk—not on the street— on each neighbourhood’s designated no-parking day.

There’s no limit to how many bags can be set out, but branches or twigs thicker than a pen won’t be accepted. Any bags containing non-compostable materials will be left behind for residents to dispose of properly.

The city also reminds residents to remove and discard any Halloween-themed garbage bag decorations in early November, as those won’t be picked up as compost.

After Oct. 27, compost pickup will end for the year as crews shift to winter operations. Residents can still drop off yard waste for free year-round at the Waste Management Facility.
