An early snowstorm wreaked havoc on northeast and east-central portions of the province on the weekend.

The system on Sunday featured strong winds and heavy, wet snow that made life complicated for many residents and organizations.

The conditions caused many downed trees across the region.

The Melfort Golf and Country Club has made a call for volunteers to help them clean up the mess from downed trees after the heavy snow.

Kelvington Mobile Health Services posted on social media that one of their ambulances slipped into the ditch due to the slushy, wet snow on Sunday. Fortunately, there were no injuries in the incident.

The Melfort Fire Department was called to five separate incidents involving trees that contacted power lines Sunday night.

Three of the incidents were in Melfort, with one south of Melfort and one in Beatty.

β€œIn all five incidents, the powerline had burnt through the small branches that were touching, resulting in no further risk of fire,” the department said on social media.

SaskPower crews were all over the place trying to restore power to customers after the heavy snow weighed down trees and caused outages.

Several residents were without power for over 24 hours, including some in the Nipawin and Red Earth Cree Nation areas. Customers south of Tisdale, and in the Rose Valley and Fosston areas also saw lengthy outages, while shorter outages were reported in the Star City, Brooksby, Creighton, Denare Beach, Aylsham, Zenon Park, Kipabiskau Lake, and Pelican Narrows areas.
