Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a man from Big Island Cree Nation died days after he was found seriously injured along a northern highway.

Police said officers from the Turtleford detachment were called to Highway 21, north of Redcross, on Oct. 11 after reports of a man lying beside the road with no vehicle nearby.

The 25-year-old, identified as Chance Oseemeemow, was taken to hospital by paramedics but died on Oct. 15.

“This male’s death is considered suspicious. As a result, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes has taken carriage of the investigation,” the RCMP said in a release issued Oct. 17.

Mounties said they are releasing Oseemeemow’s name to help advance the investigation and are asking anyone with information to contact Turtleford RCMP at 310-RCMP. Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
