North Stars roll past Wolverines in shorthanded goal frenzy
The Battlefords North Stars made the most of their penalty kill with three shorthanded goals in the second period on their way to an 8-2 victory over the Warman Wolverines on Friday night at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.
The Wolverines came into their longest homestand of the early season on the heels of a 5-2 loss to the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Tuesday. Warman and Battlefords had previously met in the Wolverines’ third game in franchise history on September 23, when the North Stars came away with a 5-2 victory.
Battlefords started the scoring in the opening period of play when Carter Geysen put in his second goal of the season. Josh Knittig fired in his third and Cole Hines scored his first goal in the SJHL to make it 3-0 North Stars after one period of play.
Warman took away the shutout bid from Kaeden Serpa in the second period when Pherson Loehndorf found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, putting the Wolverines on the scoresheet at 3-1.
