Two wanted suspects arrested after police chase on Thunderchild First Nation

Two people are facing several charges after a police pursuit involving a stolen truck on Thunderchild First Nation last week.

RCMP say officers in Turtleford received a report of a stolen truck in Mervin around 8 a.m. on Oct. 15. When officers later located the car outside a business on Thunderchild, they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the truck fled.

The next day around 1 a.m., police again spotted the same truck, which was reportedly driving “erratically” on the First Nation. When officers approached the parked vehicle outside a house, it sped off at a high rate of speed before becoming disabled in a nearby field.

Two occupants fled on foot into a treed area. With help from the RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Critical Incident Response Team and a drone, officers located and arrested a man and a woman.

A search of the car led to the seizure of a firearm magazine and ammunition.

Thirty-year-old Harley Soare of North Battleford is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.

Twenty-five-year-old Dakota Frenchman of Thunderchild First Nation is charged with resisting a peace officer, failing to comply with a release order, and weapons possession contrary to a court order.

Both were also arrested on outstanding warrants and appeared Monday in Lloydminster Provincial Court.
