Youth arrested after abandoned house set on fire at Sandy Bay

Oct 20, 2025 | 4:39 PM

A teenage boy, alleged responsible for setting an abandoned house on fire in Sandy Bandy, has been charged with arson and breaching two prior court-ordered conditions that were imposed after he was previously released from custody.

The fire occurred on Saturday at approximately 5:15 a.m.

RCMP immediately responded along with local fire services, who extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported to police. The building was however heavily damaged.

The teenage boy was arrested later that morning with the assistance of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation security personnel.

As per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth cannot be identified.

Sandy Bay RCMP continue to investigate this incident, as well as other structure fires (three houses and one outbuilding) that have occurred in Sandy Bay in October.

One of those fires left a couple and their eight children homeless.

The ongoing investigation includes determining whether there is any potential link between the incidents.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section is supporting Sandy Bay RCMP with these investigations.
