Police dog helps arrest 18-year-old armed suspect after robbery attempt in North Battleford

An 18-year-old man has been charged after an attempted robbery involving a machete in North Battleford.

Police responded around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 24 after several reports of a male threatening people with a machete on 108 Street. Officers found two men at the scene — one was arrested and later released without charges, while the other ran from police.

Investigators determined the suspect tried to steal a cellphone and smashed a car’s windows. No injuries were reported.

A police dog tracked the man to a nearby home, where he was arrested. A firearm magazine was seized during the arrest, and the machete was recovered.

Now, the 18-year-old from North Battleford faces five charges, including robbery, mischief under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unlicensed possession of a prohibited weapon.
