It’s a significant award for a local retailer.

Richardson’s Home Hardware was recently named Best Hardware Store in Canada at the 33rd Annual Hardlines Outstanding Retailer Awards in Banff, Alta. The awards celebrate excellence across the home improvement industry in the country.

Manager Sarah Chalus said their entire team was excited to receive the award. Home Hardware suggested they be nominated for the award during the summer, and Richardson’s filled out the paperwork while Home Hardware submitted it to the awards committee.

“It was overall a general shock to find out that we won, because it’s a cross-country organization,” Chalus said. The nominees are all from Home Hardwares and other retailers across Canada.

Richardson’s is a family-run retailer that has been in business since 1952. The current owners, Theresa and Dustin Chalus, are third and fourth generation owners of the store. Sarah said that’s just one thing that contributes to their success.

“I think what really sets us apart is, even though we’ve grown exponentially in the last five years, we still offer that small town, mom-and-pop shop feel when you come into our store,” Chalus explained. “We’re hands-on, we’re community involved, and we’re here to help the people that walk into our store.”

Chalus said the store carries a wide variety of inventory often found in larger centres, but staff also get to know the customers and vice versa.

The employees and management at Richardson’s Home Hardware often get lost in the hustle and bustle of business, Chalus said, and it’s nice to be able to celebrate their successes.

“Our team is just thrilled and overjoyed.”

She recommended that people come to check out Richardson’s, chat with the staff, and find out what they have to offer.
